| Why
The Charity was Founded |
|
Since 1998, Reptilia has provided Curriculum
Enrichment Programs for the public education system. As the
years passed, the requests for our programming increased to
a level that – with budget constraints – the School
Boards could no longer provide enough funding to satisfy all
the schools.
Teachers, schools and
students began fund raising to help defray the cost and
combined with the funding from the Board, were able to provide
a stop gap measure.
Now the programs
have become so sought after that the largest Board in Canada
would like to see to programs in each of its schools –
which of course, they cannot afford without help from the
private sector.
After years of working with the school
boards the need for private funding to help with enrichment
programs became readily apparent.
Our Board (almost all the
members of the Board have served on charitable Boards) decided
to create a charitable foundation to seek donations to help
support some of the shortfall the public education system
is experiencing.
Our enrichment programs are widely praised by students, teachers,
principals, schools, administrators and school boards, yet
in many cases there is insufficient budget available as you
will note from the 8 minute video above.
At some point when you have a few minutes, please view the
YouTube video above by clicking the rattlesnake's tail.
It contains discussion by students, teachers and the Science
Administrators of both the Toronto District & Toronto
Catholic District School Boards on the need for additional
enrichment programs from Reptilia, should the funding be available.
Our cause is to provide funding
to allow Reptilia's Curriculum Enrichment Programs to be
broadly available to the public education community.
Through thousands
of classroom programs provided, Reptilia has provided effective
curriculum enrichment programs which are repeatedly praised
by teachers, administration & students alike.
Ryan Coelho, Science Administrator
for the Toronto District School Board puts it this way: ‘Every
teacher wants the Reptilia program. With a resource as rich
as it is, students benefit greatly’.
Any person, charity, foundation, endowment
or corporation may donate.
Most businesses,
charities and foundations have clearly defined goals for charitable
donations as set out in their Mission Statement. Kids and
education are very popular causes as both are the root of
civilization.
Our ability to improve the
learning experience has proven popular to a broad range of
donors.
| What
Donation Percentage is Used in the Classroom? |
|
100% of donated funds
are used delivering programs in public school classrooms across
Ontario.
Reptilia pays all the operating
costs associated with the charity as its contribution to the
program.
Few other charities are
able to devote 100% of donated funds to the cause –
in this case to kids in the classroom. Furthermore, 90% of
the donated funds are used within the school year in which
the donation takes place. The remaining 10% are used for prepayment
to suppliers for materials in preparation for next years’
programs.
| Can
the Results Be Measured? |
|
Students, teachers and
school boards all are results oriented as our education system
measures results prior to allowing students to move through
the grades. Our programs have a measurable benefit to the
understanding of many aspects of science, literacy, numeracy
and geography.
