Savannah monitors are relatively drab coloured species that can attain adults sizes of approximately 1 meter (approx. 3 feet) and 9 kg (20 lbs.). They feed readily on a variety of insects, small mammals, lean meat, eggs, and seafood. A varied diet is one of the most important factors to consider if you want to raise a healthy monitor. This is especially true of savannah monitors because they are less active than most monitors which makes them prone to obesity. (Photo: Joshua V. Feltham)
