Who
we are and what we do?
Reptiles
and amphibians are largely misunderstood and feared by the general
public. These animals form a significant part of the world’s
biological diversity which needs to be preserved. Our goal is to
educate people about reptiles and amphibians. We accomplish this by
educating students and the general public through teaching.
Reptile Zoo
- Our reptile zoo is specifically designed to provide an educational,
interactive, and entertaining experience with reptiles. The large,
naturalistic exhibits are designed to suite the needs of each species and
provide visitors with a look into the environments where each species may be
found. Live demonstrations, feedings, and meet the keeper events
provide hands on experiences for all visitors.
Educational
Programs - Reptilia's educational programs are written to suit curriculum guidelines to
ensure that the lesson given is compliant with provincial
standards. Our programs are
directly linked to the topics the students are learning in the
classroom. Reptilia staff also conduct workshops for teachers to
provide them with additional background knowledge needed to teach
science in the classroom.
Retail Store - Reptilia
also strives to inform reptile and amphibian owners and future
hobbyists about responsible, ethical selection, and proper care of
reptiles and amphibians. The approach of many educational
institutions and academics is to discourage private owners from
having these animals.
We
take a different approach. Our attitude toward retail sale of
reptiles and amphibians is as follows: The public will always have a
fascination with reptiles and amphibians and some will choose to
maintain them in captivity.
Educational facilities like Reptilia and others should ensure that
the hobbyist is well informed and that the animals get the best
possible care. That is, instead of chastising the hobbyists –
educate them.
