Turtle and Tortoise Care Sheets

Reptilia's Care Sheets for Tortoises and Turtles are ordered by common name. All care sheets follow our format, which is intended to provide easy reference for your convenience. When multiple Tortoises or Turtles share the same type are listed such as Sliders, the type name is used and the species is listed afterward. An example is: Slider, Red-eared . The Latin name is provided thereafter.

Turtles and tortoises are among the longest lived reptiles. Most also have specific lighting and dietary requirements. For turtles, an efficient filtration system is a must while direct sunlight is essential for most tortoises. Tortoises are also susceptible to problems associated with an improper diet. For these reasons, we recommend that only the most dedicated keeper take on the responsibility of raising a turtle or tortoise.
