Ontario's Reptile and Amphibian Hot Spot

Beausoleil Island is situated in the south eastern corner of Georgian Bay and it is part of Georgian Bay Islands National Park.  It is in a transition zone between northern and southern ecozones.  It boasts the greatest diversity of reptiles and amphibians in Ontario.  Some highlights include the eastern fox snake, eastern hognose snake, eastern masassauga rattlesnake, spotted turtle, map turtle, and five-lined skink.

 

Your Choice of One or Two Day Trips!!!
We’ll meet on Saturday morning at the Honey Harbour Boat Club and board a water taxi for a quick trip to the Island.  Our base will be at Honeymoon Bay on the north eastern side of the island.  From there, we’ll hike the trails and explore one of the most beautiful Islands in Ontario.  Trips offered weekends fom mid-May through to the end of June.

 

We now guide trips for either one or two days. Alternate weekends, you can enjoy herping with Reptilia for either one or two days. Hikes will involve introduction to habitat types, reptile and amphibian habitat preferences, methods of finding and safely observing reptiles and amphibians, and discussion of conservation issues.

 Costa Rica

 

Costa Rican Rainforest Adventure

Prepare to experience a truly unique and fascinating environment. Costa Rica’s lowland rainforest is a fantastic place to experience the beauty and wonder of a rainforest ecosystem. You will learn about insects, plants, reptiles, amphibians, mammals, and yourself on this journey. You will arrive eager to explore and you will leave with an ache in your heart to return!

 

Costa Rica is home to some of the most species rich rainforest ecosystems in the World. The Tortuguero area is anancient flood plain covered by lowland Atlantic tropical wet forest and is biologically the richest ecosystem in Costa Rica. Average daily temperature is about 26 degrees Celsius and rainfall may exceed 6,000 mm per annum.

 

Reptiles and Amphibians
A total of 31 amphibian species and 77 reptile species have been recorded at the station. These include boa constrictors, annulated boas, coral snakes, basilisks, spotted night lizards, red-eyed tree frogs and strawberry poison dart frogs.

Everglades Expedition

Have you ever enjoyed a quiet moment at dusk in the presence of wild alligator?  Would you like to? Reptilia will be leading a trip to the everglades in late October/early November. Our goal is to provide an unforgettable experience for those interested in observing reptiles and amphibians in their natural environment. 

 

Invasive Species

Over 100 species of reptiles and amphibians have been introduced to South Florida. Burmese pythons are established and breeding in the Everglades. On this trip, you’ll find and capture Burmese pythons in the Everglades. All size classes from hatchlings all the way up to adult animals are regularly found in the areas you’ll be visiting.
