Ontario's Reptile and Amphibian Hot Spot
Beausoleil Island is situated in the south eastern corner of Georgian Bay and it is part of Georgian Bay Islands National Park. It is in a transition zone between northern and southern ecozones. It boasts the greatest diversity of reptiles and amphibians in Ontario. Some highlights include the eastern fox snake, eastern hognose snake, eastern masassauga rattlesnake, spotted turtle, map turtle, and five-lined skink.
Your Choice of One or Two Day Trips!!!
We’ll meet on Saturday morning at the Honey Harbour Boat Club and board a water taxi for a quick trip to the Island. Our base will be at Honeymoon Bay on the north eastern side of the island. From there, we’ll hike the trails and explore one of the most beautiful Islands in Ontario. Trips offered weekends fom mid-May through to the end of June.
We now guide trips for either one or two days. Alternate weekends, you can enjoy herping with Reptilia for either one or two days. Hikes will involve introduction to habitat types, reptile and amphibian habitat preferences, methods of finding and safely observing reptiles and amphibians, and discussion of conservation issues.
