Encyclopedia of Terrarium.  Bruins, Eugène
Rebo Productions Ltd. The Netherlands.  Pp 320. Published 1999

Eugène Bruins’ Encyclopedia of Terrarium is an excellent book for those interested in the general care of numerous species of reptiles, amphibians, and arthropods (insects, spiders, etc.). You’ll find information ranging from general descriptions of several species to biology and husbandry.  Biological information covers appearance, organ function, reproduction, hibernation, etc. This information will help those keeping reptiles, amphibians, and arthropods understand why specific methods of husbandry may be more productive than others. Encyclopedia of Terrarium also provides valuable information on the husbandry of many species of reptiles, amphibians, and arthropods (insects, spiders, etc.). Bruins mentions tips on behavior, accommodation, feeding, sex determination, breeding and rearing young.  An abundance of photographs helps provide visual aid for the readers to gain a better understanding of the appearance of a healthy animal, versus that of a sick one; enclosure set-up recommendations; and sex determination. Encyclopedia of Terrarium is both a guide for those deciding which animal is best suited for their lifestyle and reference for those who care for one or more of the species listed in the book.  [Reviewed by Kevin Ashforth]
